March 5-April 16, 2010 – Rainforest Masks 2010 Exhibit and Sale
Selby Gardens And La Vista Verde Present “Rainforest Masks 2010”.
For the sixth consecutive year Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is sponsoring Rainforest Masks of the Borucan Indians of Costa Rica. Selby’s Museum of Botany and the Arts will showcase these unique, striking masks from 10:00am-4:30pm daily from March 5 through April 16, 2010. On March 4th an opening reception is scheduled from 6:00pm-8:00pm. This exhibit is sponsored by la vista verde and is paid for in part by Sarasota County Tourist Development Tax revenues.
On March 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th from 1:00pm-3:00pm meet the Artists sessions are scheduled. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet the Borucan artists, and watch them carve and paint these incredible, one of a kind masks. Spanish interpreters will be available.
On March 11th from Noon-1:00pm C.J. and Marilynn Shelley of la vista verde will present a lecture titled “The Road to Boruca and Beyond” in the Cooley Theater at Selby Gardens. This free lecture will include a travelogue with images of Costa Rica and the indigenous village of Boruca.
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a respected center for research and education as well as a famous orchid showplace. Selby Gardens is located at 900 South Palm Avenue in Sarasota, Florida.
