Joy Rider Endangers Longboat Key Turtle Nests.

After a record-breaking season for turtle nesting on Longboat Key was announced by Mote Marine, some of those nests were almost destoyed during a joy ride on the beach this past Sunday.

The Longboat Key Police Department cited a 27-year-old Bradenton man after allegedly driving his truck onto the beach. Longboat Key Turtle Watch officials stated that none of the nests were damaged. “It was just a boneheaded move. Apparently he didn’t know he couldn’t do that,” said Longboat Police Chief Pete Cumming.
