If you are looking for clean hair care without the sacrifice, look no further than downtown Sarasota. COCO Salon is the area’s newest destination for fresh styles and sparkling color without the chemicals.

I’m Colleen Quinn and I started my journey with clean hair care products over 10 years ago in my hometown of Grosse Pointe, Michigan with my own health in mind. I knew I had found my calling as a hair stylist but I didn’t want to pay the price for it later in life after a long career working with chemicals every day. I started researching alternative color and product lines that marketed themselves as clean, and effective. Most did not live up to those claims. They were missing the shine, dimension and grey coverage my clients deserved. For a color enthusiast, that was not going to cut it.

Fast forward to 2015. I decided to make the move to beautiful Sarasota and start offering the same quality clean hair care services that I had provided to my clients in Grosse Pointe. I also discovered Alter Ego Italy, a product line that seemed to truly deliver on the promise of being clean and effective. After thorough research, it was clear that this was the product line I had been searching for. A line I could stand behind and offer my clients the best balance of clean products and outstanding style.

In the process of researching Alter Ego I became so knowledgeable about their products and the science behind how they work that I was asked to become an educator for the line. Other lines in the past tried to entice me to sell for them yet I couldn’t work for a company whose product I didn’t believe in. Now when I’m not pampering my clients in Sarasota, I travel the country teaching other stylists how to provide all the benefits of Alter Ego to their clients.

The line allows me to serve all types of clients. The color is all PPD and ammonia free. It is packed with anti-oxidants, keratin, Garcina Mangostana and other healthy ingredients. This is also a cationic line, it is helping protect your hair against our harsh environment.

The lightener I use for all my Florida blondes is an ECO Certified line! This is unheard of. It is packed with an Active Shine Complex and Inca oil. You will never see a dull blonde walk out of my salon. We all want to be light but if there is no shine it just doesn’t look right.

This product line combined with my years of styling and hair care education experience is a recipe for beautiful, healthy Florida hair. I am excited to be REAL Magazine’s new Beauty Editor and look forward to sharing my hair care knowledge over the months to come.

ALOE AND CARROT AT-HOME HAIR MASK

Crafting at-home beauty remedies is a passion of mine. My Carrot and Aloe Hair Mask is one of my all-time favorites and it’s so easy to do.

• Start with a fresh aloe branch. Slice off the prickly sides and peel off the skin. Take a sharp bladed knife and slice out the chunks of gel. You will want anywhere from ¼ – 1 cup depending on how much hair you have
• Chop fresh organic carrots or buy some pre-made organic carrot juice
• Put the aloe gel and chopped carrots in a blender cup and blend
• Apply this to hair just washed with AlterEgo Italy Argonixcare Miracle Repair Me wash.
• Do not condition your hair. You will want your hair towel dry or about 60% dry.
• Apply your aloe and carrot mix to your hair for 30 minutes.
• Rinse your hair until the water runs clear.
• You may apply a little Alter Ego Italy Miracle Repair Conditioner to your ends then air dry or blow dry and style as usual.

This mask is safe to use as often as you would like but I apply it about twice a month.
