Selby Gardens Obtains Contribution From Founders Garden Club
The Founders Garden Club Of Sarasota Contributes To Selby Gardens Education Programs.
The Founders Garden Club of Sarasota contributed $1,000 to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens for the purchase of microscopes for its educational programs. The microscopes will be used by school children on field trips to the Gardens as well as in the Kids Corner, a self-guided activities area for visiting children to explore plants and the natural world.
“Before this grant, we had only six microscopes, which was a real challenge when we had a big group of students,” said Interim Education Director Marilynn Shelley. “And now, thanks to the generosity of the Founders Garden Club, when we have a group in working on flower dissections or looking at leaves, we won’t have to put as many as four kids on one microscope!”
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a respected center for research and education as well as a famous orchid showplace. The Gardens is located at 811 South Palm Avenue in Sarasota. It is open to the public daily from 10am-5pm with the exception of Christmas day. For additional information visit www.selby.org.
