Documentary Examines Sea-Level Rise and Sustainability of Coastal Cities. Director Brian Kalina worked for three years on a film about the fragility of oceanfront communities, but he lacked that “hook” – the imagery and statement that would sell the film to an audience. Van Wezel Foundation Leadership Donor Program Announced. The Van Wezel Foundation recently launched its leadership donor campaign, Where Inspiration Takes Center Stage. The campaign will support the Van Wezel’s Schooltime Performances program as well as the maintenance and improvement of the Van Wezel’s Performing Arts Hall. New College Appoints Director Of Communications & Marketing. New College of Florida announced it has named Jessica Rood, an experienced and award-winning higher education professional, as its new director of communications and marketing. Rood will be responsible for all facets of New College’s public presentation, including its website, magazines, newsletters and development and admissions materials. She begins work at New College on November 4th. Rood was director of creative services at St. Lawrence University, in upstate New York, since 2011. Habitat for Humanity Begins Veterans Repair Project. Habitat Sarasota announced that Art Takes, age 86 and a World War II veteran, is the first recipient of Habitat for Humanity Sarasota’s Legacy of Valor Veterans Repair Project. During the next month, Habitat volunteers will assist Takes with repairs at his home. Assisting with the project will be Habitat Sarasota Project Leader Bud Rives, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel along with and a group of other Habitat volunteers, many of whom are also veterans.
