Princeton Review Names New College Of Florida To ‘Best Colleges’. New College of Florida was again named one of the country’s top undergraduate colleges by The Princeton Review. New College was among an exclusive group of American colleges to make the Review’s new college guidebook, “The Best 384 Colleges.” The book is based on surveys and interviews with students and administrators at several hundred four-year colleges. New College Of Florida Selects Luis Suarez As Director Of Emergency Management. Suarez brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from Manatee County, where he served as an emergency management officer. In that position, he wrote and established the standard operating procedures for the county’s Emergency Operations Center. He also was responsible for planning and conducting two full-scale hurricane simulations, which hosted, trained, and evaluated over 200 county and municipal personnel. Governor Appoints Garin Hoover To New College Of Florida Board Of Trustees. Garin C. Hoover, a Sarasota-Bradenton real estate broker, was appointed to the Board of Trustees of New College of Florida by Florida Gov. Rick Scott. An Ohio native, Hoover moved to Florida in 2004 and started his real estate firm, Hoover Realty. In Ohio, he worked as an attorney in the Cleveland area, as in-house counsel for a corporation and as an associate with a firm, before opening a private law practice. New College Now Up To 86 Fulbright Recipients. Three students at New College of Florida were awarded prestigious Fulbright grants for 2018 and will study and work in Taiwan and Croatia. Miles Iton (Homestead, Fla.) received a Fulbright Research Fellowship to Taiwan. Megan Bailey (Miramar, Fla.) and Liliana Solomon (South Orange, New Jersey) received Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships, to Taiwan and Croatia, respectively. All are expected to graduate on May 18. New College now has 47 Fulbright recipients in the last 10 years, and 86 in its history. New College Makes Fiske Guidebook To College’s Ranking. New College of Florida once again was ranked as a “Best Buy” college in the 2017 edition of the respected and long-running Fiske Guide to Colleges. Only 21 public colleges in the United States received Fiske’s “Best Buy” designation. New College has appeared on Fiske’s “Best Buy” list since 2003. To be a “Best Buy,” colleges must meet Fiske’s criteria for a top four- or five-star ranking for academic excellence and be in its moderate- or low-price groups. Robin Williamson Now Dean of Student Affairs. New College of Florida has named Robin M. Williamson, Ph.D., as its dean of student affairs. Williamson has served since September 2012 as assistant dean of student development at Texas Christian University, a private institution in suburban Fort Worth with about 8,600 undergraduate students. New College is helping two dozen middle and high school students prepare for careers in medicine and science with a program that takes them out on Sarasota Bay and into the College’s marine biology labs.
