Pitching By Golf Pro Nick Arthur Many golfers struggle to pitch the golf ball. One common reason that golfers struggle with pitching is they lose the connection between their arms and their body. To perfect your pitching and maintain connection through the golf swing, try the towel drill shown above. Place a towel across your upper chest and under each armpit. The goal of this drill is to keep the towel under both arms during the takeaway as well as after impact. Using the towel will feel restrictive. For this reason you should begin practicing with half swings. Imagine that […]
Master The Short Putts By Golf Pro Nick Arthur To master the art of short putting, a golfer needs two things. The first is the confidence to make the putt and the second is an accelerating putter head down the target line. To improve your short putting, try this drill. All you need is a shaft and three tees. Place the shaft along the target line (or the toe of your putter.) Then make a gate from two tees. The first tee will be just outside the toe of your putter. The second tee will be just on the inside […]
It’s Alignment, Not Your Swing By Golf Pro Nick Arthur Have you ever hit a golf shot that you thought should be perfect, however it ends up going in a different direction from what you intended? This could be an alignment issue rather than a swing issue. Proper alignment is one of the most important fundamentals in golf, yet it is one of the most overlooked. To correct an alignment issue you must first understand the proper alignment points. The first point is your target line. The target line is the direction in which the golf ball is intended to […]

What Your Eyes See, Holds The Key To More Consistent Putting By Jonathan Yarwood All golfers have a dominant eye and in putting, it affects how you see the putting line. Some people are left eye dominant and others right eye dominant. This difference affects ball position and putting set up. A golfer must know whether they are left or right eye dominant to be a consistent putter. To determine your dominant eye, do the following. Stand in front of a mirror. Make a circle with your thumb and index finger. Do this on both hands. Put those circles on […]
The Fairway Bunker Shot By Jonathan Yarwood This shot is a shot which is rarely practiced, yet is a vital recovery shot from a fairway bunker. There are two ways to play it, but in both cases, you need to make contact with the ball first in order to advance it a long way. Take a look at the lip of the bunker first. If there is a lip, use a more lofted club and lower your distance expectations. People often use too little loft and hit it into the lip. In the first way to play the shot and […]
Lessons You Can Learn From Watching Golf On TV By Jonathan Yarwood It is easy to get blasé to golf on TV each week. But if you make a conscious effort to pay closer attention to the events unfolding, there are some great lessons to learn from what can be seen. Pre and post shot routine: All great players have a consistent pre shot routine. It is a bubble that allows them to go into auto-pilot when the pressure comes. It can help you in making your game more routine and automatic. Watch some of the things that they do, […]
Hit It Further And Straighter With Your Driver! By Jonathan Yarwood “Keep your head down!”….. How many times have you heard that! Well, I am here to tell you, that advice is responsible for a lot of problems with the driver including ‘skying’ it, ‘slicing’ it and a lack of power. It actually perpetuates many problems too, let me explain…. The more you keep your head down, the less your body winds up behind the ball. Your right hip gets ‘high’ as you go back and acts as a barrier to moving your weight. You end up in a classic […]

Want To Make Putts? By Jonathan Yarwood Want to make more putts!? Who doesn’t? A common thing I encounter is that people cannot read greens or putts correctly. As you can see in the photos, all putts are actually straight! The slope takes the ball off the line that you choose, but mentally you are thinking that the putt you are hitting is actually straight at your target, not necessarily the hole. Let me explain. The amount of break is dictated by the slope, speed of the greens and how hard you hit it. When looking at a putt, get […]
Training Kids By Jonathan Yarwood At the Jonathan Yarwood Golf Academy we train lots of kids. Did you know, there are certain windows that kids can learn ‘form’ and certain windows that they cannot!? It depends on age, gender, growth spurts and relative maturity. You can have two eight year olds who are completely different mentally and physically from a developmental perspective. It is important that these two types are coached differently. At my academy, the focus is fun with the younger kids. Why is golf always number 10 on every kids list? Why do kids take it up and […]
Pitching By Jonathan Yarwood If you want to make some scores, then get your pitching sharper! Getting accurate from 80 yards and in, is a great way to lower your scores quickly and easily. The set up for pitching is a blend of the chip set up and the full swing really. Stand wider than a chip, but not as wide as a full swing. Stand the same ratio from the ball too, not as close as a chip but not as far away as your full swing. Your feet should be slightly open to the target with the ball […]

FORMAT “1 BEST BALL” TOURNAMENT – YOU REALLY GET TO PLAY THE COURSE!

The Pre-Shot Routine By Jonathan Yarwood Not much is written about the Pre-Shot routine. It is a vital and often over looked component of the game that can ‘glue’ your swing changes into place and allow you to take them to the course. It is almost like an ‘autopilot’. You get your body used to the actions and rhythms of a solid Pre-Shot routine, so when the pressure comes on the first tee or it is a time that really counts, you can produce the goods. Many of the players I work with work hard on their routines. We even […]
