40th Anniversary Sarasota Jazz Festival. The Jazz Club of Sarasota marks its 40th anniversary on March 8-14, 2020, with the 40th Sarasota Jazz Festival, its biggest ever. Ken Peplowski—”arguably the greatest living jazz clarinetist” (BBC2)—returns for his third year as music director for the mainstage concerts. He has booked The Manhattan Transfer to headline the milestone event. Other jazz stars include Dick Hyman, Clairdee, Houston Person, Charles McPherson, Russell Malone, Terel Stafford, and festival band La Lucha—Alejandro Arenas, Mark Feinman, and John O’Leary. The Ringling Introduces Gardens Walking Tour. This walking tour will introduce you to interesting botanical specimens on the estate while providing a historic overview of the development of the estate. The Ringling Arboretum has over 2350 trees within the arboretum representing native, exotic, historical, and culturally significant trees. Garden Tours are offered on Mondays at 1:00-2:30 PM. Sarasota Youth Opera presents a revival of their acclaimed production of Brundibár by Hans Krása at 7 pm on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16, 2019. Originally performed by children at the Theresienstadt concentration camp during WWII, this allegorical tale has three heroes — a sparrow, a cat and a very wise dog — helping two children raise the money needed to save their ailing mother, despite the evil organ grinder Brundibár.
