Sarasota Youth Opera presents a revival of their acclaimed production of Brundibár by Hans Krása at 7 pm on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16, 2019. Originally performed by children at the Theresienstadt concentration camp during WWII, this allegorical tale has three heroes — a sparrow, a cat and a very wise dog — helping two children raise the money needed to save their ailing mother, despite the evil organ grinder Brundibár. Gulf Coast Community Foundation Awards Arts Appreciation Grant. Sarasota Opera was awarded a $50,000 Arts Appreciation Grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The grant offers unrestricted funding to area arts organizations in support of their artistic mission. Sarasota Opera is seeking a number of enthusiastic, outgoing men to volunteer as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing and non-speaking extras in the opera productions for its 2019 Winter Festival Season. Giuseppe Verdi Returns To Sarasota Opera. The last time Sarasota Opera performed Nabucco, the work that solidified Verdi’s reputation as an opera composer, was in 1995. National Endowment For The Arts Supports Production Of The Dialogues of the Carmelites. National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu approved an Art Works award of $20,000 to support the winter 2017 production of The Dialogues of the Carmelites by Francis Poulenc. Sarasota Opera Seeking Male Bodybuilders. Sarasota Opera is seeking volunteer male bodybuilders to appear as supernumeraries (non-singing extras) for its winter season production of Verdi’s opera Aida. Rehearsals will be in the evenings in January of 2016 and will NOT be every night. There will be 12 performances total beginning on January 30 and concluding on March 19th. Mixed Use Complex Will House Sarasota Opera Artists. Rosemary Square, a new mixed-use complex on Boulevard of the Arts between Central and Lemon Avenues broke ground Friday, August 7, 2015. Developed by Dr. Mark Kauffman and partners, Rosemary Square will include retail and office space, and thirty condominium units which were purchased by Sarasota Opera as artists housing.
