R.O. Schabbach Wins Euro Culture Award. German artist R.O. Schabbach received this year’s Euro Culture Award from his native German district of Bernkastel-Wittlich. The award, presented every two years, rewards outstanding artistic achievement and international acclaim. His most recent public exhibition, Love and Light for World Peace, illuminated Sarasota’s Herald-Tribune building with geometric multicolored projections. Schabbach’s has exhibited in major venues across the world, including museums in Paris, Malta, Cairo, Odessa, Ukraine and in U.S. Guggenheim Collection. Habitat For Humanity Welcomes Jessica And Her Family. On Thursday July 7, 2016 at Noon Habitat for Humanity Sarasota will dedicate a home to Jessica and her family. Robin Williamson Now Dean of Student Affairs. New College of Florida has named Robin M. Williamson, Ph.D., as its dean of student affairs. Williamson has served since September 2012 as assistant dean of student development at Texas Christian University, a private institution in suburban Fort Worth with about 8,600 undergraduate students. Take Time To Honor The World’s Oceans Today. World Oceans Day is an annual observation to honor the world’s oceans. World Oceans Day has been unofficially celebrated every June 8th since its original proposal in 1992 by Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. Since then it has been coordinated internationally by The Ocean Project.
New College Hosts 15th Year Of PUSH/SUCCESS. New College is helping two dozen middle and high school students prepare for careers in medicine and science with a program that takes them out on Sarasota Bay and into the College’s marine biology labs. It’s the 15th year of PUSH/SUCCESS, a program for students from demographics typically under-represented in science. Students arrive on June 6 for two weeks of intensive science training, from collecting samples to running experiments to preparing reports and presentations on their work.
