REAL Luxury – Hand Rolled Cigars By Ernesto

Hand Rolled Cigars With Ybor City’s Ernesto

The Way A REAL Cigar Is Meant To Be!

Photography by Chad Spencer

A cigar, like many masterpieces, exemplifies simplicity, a bunch of tobacco leaves rolled together. Yet a cigar is much more than a skilled laborer’s routine assembly of the parts; it is the gift of craftsmen who rely on their hands to forge an elixir of simple pleasure. For cigar lovers, the artistic genius lies in the touch of hands.

Discovering Health: What’s In Your Tool Box?

By Kimberly Burns, OTR/L, CLT

Most everyone has a toolbox of some sort. A tool box is generally thought of as a physical area that we keep special tools that you use around your home to maintain and repair household items. It contains different unique tools that you use alone or in conjunction with other tools. A therapist’s tool box may consist of different tests, a variety of therapeutic interventions such as different exercises, knowledge and other tools that we call modalities that we will use to help with a patient’s injury or disease. Parents with children that have special needs may have their own sensory tool box with activities to stimulate all of a child’s senses to improve the ability to develop. If you want to live in good health and fight injury and disease, being your own health advocate and gaining knowledge of what is available will assist you in developing your own wellness toolbox.

Your wellness toolbox should contain physical and cognitive strategies for what your body needs related to diet, self-care, exercise and movement, relaxation, pain management, cognitive functioning. Just like a repair tool box, your wellness toolbox should contain a unique set of tools that you can choose from to address the specific need your body may be having Read More

Summer Style Trends Part 1 – Style With A Cause

By Becca Smith

Photography by Jolanta Bremer of Jola Portraits

Style With A Cause is about empowering and inspiring women through fashion and beauty. This is my passion. Which is why I will be dedicating my upcoming REAL Style columns to “Style With A Cause” – Summer Style Trends. I will cover a bevy of fun style & beauty trends for fashionistas at all levels, and will be honoring amazing women who help raise funds to give back.

When I think of amazing, successful, strong beautiful women who make a difference the Women’s Council of Realtors of Sarasota (WCR) comes to mind. Their Mission Statement: a network of successful REALTORS, advancing women as professionals and leaders in business, the industry and the communities they serve. This is an organization that exemplifies “Style With A Cause.” Through their annual Fashion Show & Luncheon, the Women’s Council of Realtors, come together and celebrate one common denominator that every woman has in common; that they are unique and beautiful at every turn of their journey. It is also a day to raise funds for a local Charity. I am proud to be Co-Chairing this year’s Fashion Show with Rebecca Dalton, Realtor Liaison LWR Communities. The Fashion show scheduled for September 16th at Polo Grill’s Fete Ballroom will feature both Men & Women fashions from Jackie Z Style Co, and benefits Family Promise, a local non-profit Organization that enables the community to work together to address the needs of homeless families in Sarasota. Why Should I Have a Formal Home Inspection?

By Patricia Tan

Truth is confirmed by inspection and delay
Falsehood by haste and uncertainty
Tacitus, A.D. 56 to 117

The Roman historian Tacitus was certainly not commenting about a modern day home inspection, but nevertheless home buyers should heed his advice.

Nowhere is the Latin phrase Caveat Emptor, (Buyer Beware) more feared than in the real estate market. It really is the responsibility of the home buyer to ascertain exactly what he is buying in terms of the condition of the property.

In most cases, detailed inspections will be performed after a contract for sale of a home has been agreed. Why spend money on professional inspections if you don’t know whether buyer and seller can agree on terms of the sale? There are occasions, however, when a seller may conduct pre-sale inspections of a home in order to give buyers a sense of security in moving forward with a purchase. In this situation, the buyer should still make their own inspections. Read More

Does Title Insurance Really Protect a Property Owner from Zoning Issues?

By William Henry, PhD

Title Insurance is a policy to protect and/or indemnify against loss or damage resulting from defects in the title and deed to the property.

What does Title insurance cover? The basic title insurance policy that is not “overly endorsed” includes the following: 1) Representation as to the actual owners of the property, 2) Representation that the property is free of encumbrances, i.e. other mortgage liens, mechanics liens, and potential claims that have not been recorded, and 3) Representation that there is access to the property that will allow the current use to continue in operation.

Potential purchasers of property in Florida are often mistakenly led to believe that the title insurance purchased warrants that the zoning and land use entitlements in place conform to the existing or intended use. Read More

Living The Dream

By Ed Bertha

Photography by Giovanni Lunardi

Layout by Christian Lunardi

Jessica Montalvo grew up in Sarasota, and for a real estate professional there’s no place like home. She launched her real estate career after working for a local landscape architect. Her draw to real estate was the ability to assist individuals and families in making one of the most important decisions of their lives. Jessica entered real estate as an assistant to a Realtor and then worked as a closer for a real estate law firm before getting her license and actively practicing real estate.

Her philosophy of business is straightforward. “In this business, you have two things to offer,” she explains. “One is knowledge. You must be an expert in the various segments of the market that you operate within. The other is service. Taking care of my clients is a top priority, and I make it a point to always be available when they need me.” Read More

Inflammation

By Kimberly Burns, OTR/L, CLT

Inflammation ….. Latin “inflammo”, meaning “to set on fire, to torch, kindle”….

If you’re living with inflammation, these words have great meaning. Ancient Greeks describe it as the “internal fire”. Imagine walking over burning coals. Now imagine that feeling all over your body. According a MedicalNewsToday.com article, “Inflammation is the body’s attempt at self-protection; the aim being to remove harmful stimuli, including damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens – and begin the healing process”

We can recognize inflammation after a cut or injury because the area becomes reddened, hot and often painful yet inflammation isn’t just a response to something physical that has happened. It can be a response to autoimmune diseases, muscular related pain, germs like bacteria, and chemicals or radiation. Inflammation is our body’s response to something that it perceives as harmful or irritating to it. Whether it’s from a small scratch to injury, an allergic reaction from bug bites to food allergies, or due to your genetic make-up, your body is always at work trying to heal itself. Read More

Spring Up Your Wardrobe

Bring on Spring: Freshen Up Your Style

By Becca Smith

Welcome to the “Bring on Spring” series. It’s May now and a perfect time to give your wardrobe a little freshening up so you’ll be ready to step out this spring in style. Spring is the perfect time of year to get a fresh start and cleaning out your closet is the first step. Yes, that’s right, it’s time to “spring-proof” your wardrobe. Time to put away those dark drab colors and heavier fabrics. I don’t know about you, but I’m wanting to add some color to my everyday outfits. I’m loving the idea of adding small bits of color, florals and pattern into my normal wardrobe. Dreary colors can easily become the staple for spring, but I’m really trying to get a little more colorful! Neon’s, florals and pastels are the way to go, so don’t be afraid of adding some color in your life. This spring is all about color so step outside your comfort zone and brighten it up!

You can also spruce up your wardrobe this spring with accessories. I recommend chunky jewelry in bright colors (a cuff or bib necklace), bright or metallic sandals and flats, a bright scarf (aim for multicolored scarves to get the most bang for your buck so they coordinate with more outfits), a big bag in a neutral leather or bright color (helps contain on the go essentials and can punch your outfit up a notch).

Adding these 10 must-have pieces will also help you ‘Spring Up your wardrobe”: Read More
