Three Fulbright Grants For New College Students. Three students at New College of Florida were awarded prestigious Fulbright grants for 2015 and will study/work in Colombia, Germany and Morocco. This year’s Fulbright recipients are Kyna Patel (Lakeland, FL), Peter Raab (Bellingham, WA) and August Tupper (Portland, OR). The College previously announced that students Shana Bergman and Madeleine Yount were awarded Gilman Scholarships from the U.S. State Department for study abroad, and that Sarah Oldham and Hilary Ramirez received Critical Language Scholarships from the State Department. New College of Florida is one of just 200 “Colleges That Pay You Back”, a new national ranking released by The Princeton Review. “Colleges That Pay You Back” is a new guidebook and ranking system for The Princeton Review, reflecting academic quality, cost to students and families, and salaries earned by graduates. Kiplinger’s Ranks New College 13th out of 100. For the 12th consecutive year, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has recognized New College of Florida as a top value in higher education. New College of Florida Hosts Dr. Fiona Crawford. Military veterans wounded by roadside bombs commonly suffer from traumatic brain injury. Recently, studies have shown that professional football players also experience traumatic brain injury, from less severe but repeated impacts to the head. New Music New College Season Continues. The innovative New Music New College concert series continues with a performance by The New College Chorus entitled “Darkness and Light.” The concert is at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, with a pre-concert talk at 7:30 p.m., in the College’s Mildred Sainer Pavilion. The rankings, part of the “Best Colleges 2015” edition, were released today on the magazine’s website. New College Awards First Honorary Degree. Last evening in a sunset ceremony on the bayfront, New College of Florida awarded bachelor of arts degrees to 144 students, and bestowed its first honorary degree to alumnus and keynote speaker Jennifer Granick at its 48th commencement. Among the graduates are five Fulbright Scholarship winners, and two of the 10 members of the first class of Florida’s Frost Scholars, who received full scholarships for graduate degrees at England’s University of Oxford. This year’s recipients are Erich Barganier (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Robert Matthew Klinkel (Orlando, Fla.), Laura Robinson (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Richard Zay (Inverness, Fla.). Documentary Examines Sea-Level Rise and Sustainability of Coastal Cities. Director Brian Kalina worked for three years on a film about the fragility of oceanfront communities, but he lacked that “hook” – the imagery and statement that would sell the film to an audience. Then superstorm Sandy thrashed the New Jersey shore, flooded Manhattan and sent Kalina back to film the “after” shots of the places he had already visited. New College Appoints Director Of Communications & Marketing. New College of Florida announced it has named Jessica Rood, an experienced and award-winning higher education professional, as its new director of communications and marketing. Rood will be responsible for all facets of New College’s public presentation, including its website, magazines, newsletters and development and admissions materials. She begins work at New College on November 4th. Rood was director of creative services at St. Lawrence University, in upstate New York, since 2011.
