More than 150 people came out to support the event that was held to provide valuable resources for students with special needs in Sarasota County Schools. Sarasota Opera Announces Two “Super” Casting Calls. The Sarasota Opera has announced dates for two “Super” casting calls for the upcoming 2016 Winter Festival Season. The first date is Tuesday, December 29th, from 5:00–5:30pm and the second date is Saturday, January 2nd, from 1:00pm–1:30pm. Both casting calls will be at the Sarasota Opera House. Sarasota Opera is seeking a limited number of enthusiastic outgoing people, both men and women, to serve as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing extras in opera productions, for its 2016 Winter Festival Season productions of Verdi’s Aida and The Battle of Legnano, and Beethoven’s Fidelio. Tomb Of The Unknowns And Veterans Day. Official, national ceremonies for Veterans Day center around the Tomb of the Unknowns. To honor these men, symbolic of all Americans who gave their lives in all wars, an Army honor guard, the 3d U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard), keeps day and night vigil. At 11 am on November 11th, a combined color guard representing all military services executes “Present Arms” at the tomb. The nation’s tribute to its war dead is symbolized by the laying of a presidential wreath and the playing of “Taps.” REAL Exclusive salutes our Veterans!

Charlayne Hunter-Gault, a pioneer in the American civil rights movement and an award-winning journalist for The New York Times, NPR and CNN, will speak on Monday November 9th with New College students about her life and career. Her talk is at 5pm in the College’s Sudakoff Conference Center and an informal reception will follow. In 1961, Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes were the first two black students to enroll at University of Georgia. Cat Depot Celebrates Feral Cat Day. Cat Depot will honor National Feral Cat Day on Friday, October 16, 2015, by working with local animal advocates and providing spay/neuter for 16 feral cats from a local colony. Cat Depot has spayed/neutered 1,135 cats and kittens, including 500 feral cats, since the opening of the Rose Durham Cat Care Clinic in November, 2014.
