What do a 1961 Ferrari 400 Superamerica and a 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa have in common? Both are outstanding examples of legendary artistic coachwork and mechanical dexterity. Furthermore, they were award winning automobiles at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and Concours d’Elegance of America, respectively. These cars are a small glimpse into the private Cogan automobile collection in Louisville, KY.

The Cogan’s involvement with classic motorcars began over four decades ago. Chris Cogan and his brother Kevin began collecting, restoring, racing and showing cars. What started as a hobby evolved into a full-time business. The collection of cars has also evolved and grown with a focus on post-war to modern sports and racing cars. The Cogan’s legacy includes more than ninety years of combined motorcar investing, collecting, racing, restoration, historic preservation and concours competition. Now Chris Cogan has partnered with Kevin’s son Connor to bring an expansion of the family’s decades of automotive prowess to Florida with F7 Motorsports and F7 Garage (together referred to as F7), based in Sarasota. Anticipation

“The joy of looking forward to a favorite activity – Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance” – Ed Bertha

“People continue to be the most important component of The Amelia. They’re all “Car Guys” of one stripe or another. They are the reason people tell me that The Amelia is still, in our 24th year, the “Racers’ Concours” or “The Fun Concours”. These days, even with the rain, I still think it’s both.”

Real Estate – Christy May – Coldwell Banker

Christy May Profile Feature Story

Christy May, REALTOR

Coldwell Banker

Residential Community Commercial

Christy May started her real estate career in Greater Boston in communications of large commercial projects. She named Fidelity’s FMR Properties Boscom for the acquisition of Massport’s Pier. It is now the heart of the thriving South Seaport area there. Producing a 9-minute summary video of the proposal was key to securing the Pier and surrounding land for Fidelity.

Coming from TV News Production at Channel 10 in Miami where she received an AB in Liberal Arts and a BS in Marine Bio Chemistry from Rosensteil School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, she stayed in TV News at Channel 5 in Boston while pursuing her Master’s Degree in Communications from Boston University. Christy was also the constituent representative of Chinatown and the Leather District during the Big Dig and this reclaimed area became the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

Her mom had a thoroughbred race horse farm in Myakka Ranches – 6 miles east of I75, off Clark Rd. When Boston winters became worse and worse, she and her husband moved to Lakewood Ranch, which is now the fastest-growing community in the US! She joined Coldwell Banker when the Residential Community Commercial group called to her! Perfect! Read More

Boost Your Health:

3 Senses you should attend to more

By Kimberly Burns, OTR/L, CLT

Ism: Denoting a system, principle, or ideological movement or denoting a pathological condition. Your choice.
Kimism: Maximize health and well-being by combining two or more natural strategies!

We have so many great ways we can use knowledge of the body’s inner workings to heal and maintain wellness. When we look to our sensory systems and support our “involuntary muscles”, we reduce the work the body has to do on its own to run more efficiently and maximize health.

1. Proprioception is the body’s awareness of movement. We are not always aware of how our insides are working, especially the diaphragm. Jobs that require sitting, overhead reaching, bending for long periods of time contribute to a breathing pattern that does not benefit you. By learning Diaphragmatic Breathing, you can train your diaphragm to move in the correct manner influencing better health. You can easily incorporate this breath before you get out of bed in the morning and after you get back in for the night. I recommend diaphragmatic breathing to be done only when the body is not engaging abdominal muscles to reduce injury such as hernias and prolapsed bladders. What a good way to start and end your day knowing you have taken the time to care for yourself. Read More

Cinnamon and Coconut Oil Hair Mask

By Colleen Quinn

Are you suffering from hair loss or just want to have your hair grow faster? This month I am featuring hair growing masks along with tricks for hydrating your dull, dry winter hair from the comfort of your own home. Typically, people suffer from hair loss due to hormonal changes, thyroid problems, child birth or menopause. All of this can be stressful and frightening but before you spend money on drugs or harsh chemicals try out this DIY hair mask:

Why it Works

COCONUT OIL
Coconut oil stimulates hair growth and adds luster, shine and softness to the hair. It also prevents hair breakage and split ends. Because of coconut oil’s high moisture retaining abilities it penetrates deeper into the hair shaft than regular conditioners. Also, because it is loaded with fatty acids you are left with beautiful, soft, silky hair.

CINNAMON
Cinnamon stimulates circulation to the scalp, improving blood flow to the hair follicles. It also strengthens your hair follicles which allows your hair to grow longer. Read More

Lakewood Ranch Golf

Lakewood Ranch Golf Update

By Curtis Andrews & Mark Lawrence

There are more than 1,250 Floridian golf courses, more than any other State, and many are open to the green fee paying public, however if you want to play the very best golf courses in the area it will require effort and skillful networking.

akewood National Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch recently hosted the inaugural PGA “Suncoast Classic” tournament the second week of February. 156 players competed for a $550,000 purse. A five-year deal is in place with the PGA and Lakewood National through 2023. This year’s tournament was won by Colorado native Mark Hubbard who secured his first Web.com Tour title in his 65th start, firing a four-round total of 26-under to secure a two-shot win over Maverick McNealy.

Developed by Lennar Homes, in conjunction with the Lakewood National Golf & Country Club masterpiece community, Lakewood National is a 2017 Arnold Palmer Design course featuring a layout unique to the western central Florida landscape that encompasses a natural, rustic feel with a classic touch rooted in the Golden Age of golf course architecture.

If you are a golfer, Lakewood Ranch offers a variety of courses to take a swing at. Some of the courses in Lakewood Ranch are: Read More

Healthy Options For The Man Who Has Everything

By Cheryl Valdebenito

Today’s focus is on the men ~ How can we help support your healthy life style in a natural holistic way? Men are pragmatic – generally you deal with something when it happens. Although you’re experiencing different stressors every day, you treat those little annoyances like pesky mosquitos, simply to be brushed away. When the bug’s venom r-e-a-l-l-y starts itching, your awareness says, “what can I DO about this?”

Some of the best gems for relieving life’s little discomforts are essential oils. While it is usually the women who lean toward this solution, Men…Listen up! Your turn has come.

The science behind the use of pure essential oils is revealing, so as you dip your foot into the scented oils a few times, you likely will find yourself stimulated by the results of your research. Quality, purity and effectiveness are key elements to their viability. Let’s have a look at what benefits are possible using oils if golf is your passion.

On the drive over, you’re telling yourself, ‘Today is par or better; get your head in the game.’ In moments like these, a drop or two of Frankincense comes in handy. Put it in your palm, breathe in the earthy, uplifting aroma, and pat your neck. The scent is grounding you, giving you a sense of connectedness between yourself and the grass, somehow elevating and stimulating at the same time. Read More

From economic to extreme they’re here for all your construction needs.

Growing up in Maryland, construction was never out of sight for Bryant “Pete” Samuel. His father, Pete, ran American Abstract Construction, a carpentry and welding firm, while his mother, Annette, owned Nettie Contracting, a residential home improvement company. As typically happens with family businesses Pete began his journeyman in construction at an early age.

Experiencing the ebb and flow of the construction business Pete longed to do something else. Then the Navy called. Still wanting to work with his hands he became an electronics technician after 2 years of electrical engineering school. Thinking electronics repair was the right choice at the time Pete settled into repairing communication units. Read More
