Tomb Of The Unknowns And Veterans Day. Official, national ceremonies for Veterans Day center around the Tomb of the Unknowns. To honor these brave souls, symbolic of all Americans who gave their lives in all wars, an Army honor guard, the 3d U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard), keeps day and night vigil. At 11 am on November 11th, a combined color guard representing all military services executes “Present Arms” at the tomb. The nation’s tribute to its war dead is symbolized by the laying of a presidential wreath and the playing of “Taps.” REAL Exclusive salutes our Veterans!

Daylight Savings Time Can Be Dangerous! Did you set your clocks back? At 5pm virtually everyone is awake. Far more people are active at 7pm than are at 7am. Not just a minor inconvenience to your sleep cycles and busy schedule there are ramifications. Adding an hour of sunlight in the evening year-round would save the lives of more than 170 pedestrians annually. The lives of nearly 200 vehicle occupants could also theoretically be saved by not making the change. For the first couple weeks even though it is dark and you are reacting like it is light. Be careful.

A Little Halloween History. 2,000 years ago the Celts celebrated their new year on November 1st, marking the end of summer and the harvest. Following was the beginning of a long, dark, cold winter, a time associated with human death. The Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became one.
