New College Makes Fiske Guidebook To College’s Ranking. New College of Florida once again was ranked as a “Best Buy” college in the 2017 edition of the respected and long-running Fiske Guide to Colleges. Only 21 public colleges in the United States received Fiske’s “Best Buy” designation. New College has appeared on Fiske’s “Best Buy” list since 2003. Joy Rider Endangers Longboat Key Turtle Nests. After a record-breaking season for turtle nesting on Longboat Key was announced by Mote Marine, some of those nests were almost destoyed during a joy ride on the beach this past Sunday. The Longboat Key Police Department cited a 27-year-old Bradenton man after allegedly driving his truck onto the beach. Longboat Key Turtle Watch officials stated that none of the nests were damaged. “It was just a boneheaded move. Apparently he didn’t know he couldn’t do that,” said Longboat Police Chief Pete Cumming.
