Family Law Guardian Ad Litem Pilot Program Launches. The 12th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida launched a pilot program designed to provide guardians ad litem for children involved in high-conflict divorce and custody cases in the Circuit’s Family Law Division. All the volunteers for this ground-breaking program are attorneys from the law firm of Icard, Merrill, Cullis, Timm, Furen & Ginsburg. Twenty-four Icard Merrill attorneys have signed up to volunteer. 2014 Annual Meeting At Sarasota Opera Hits A C8. Maestro Victor DeRenzi and Executive Director Richard Russell met with Sarasota Opera patrons and supporters for Sarasota Opera’s 2014 Annual Meeting with an update on the state of Sarasota Opera. New College Awards First Honorary Degree. Last evening in a sunset ceremony on the bayfront, New College of Florida awarded bachelor of arts degrees to 144 students, and bestowed its first honorary degree to alumnus and keynote speaker Jennifer Granick at its 48th commencement. Among the graduates are five Fulbright Scholarship winners, and two of the 10 members of the first class of Florida’s Frost Scholars, who received full scholarships for graduate degrees at England’s University of Oxford. Laxpalooza At Premier Sports Campus. The Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch will host the Laxpalooza lacrosse tournament over Memorial Day weekend, May 24-25, 2014. This event is competitive, yet fun, safe and memorable, and will host both boys and girls at all levels in the Southeast Region. More than 35 teams and some 2,000 people are expected to attend the tournament. Teams will be able to compete against other teams from all states including Florida, Georgia, and the southeast region, along with several teams traveling from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. All Faiths Collects 766,253 Pounds Of Food. All Faiths Food Bank’s Campaign Against Summer Hunger surpassed all expectations and raised an unprecedented $1.1 million in funds and 766,253 pounds of food to feed children and families this summer. The Campaign began on April 1, 2014 and culminated on May 10 with the Letter Carriers Food Drive.
